Do I have to register my babysitter, nanny or childminder with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund?

Regular employment
As long as the marginal earnings threshold (€ 551.10 per month in 2025) is not exceeded, you are not legally obliged to register your babysitter or nanny with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund. However, if the marginal earnings threshold is exceeded, you must register your childminder with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund.
This protects them from the negative consequences of disability, loss of earnings and unemployment in the event of an emergency.

Self-employed babysitters and nannies
You do not have to register a self-employed babysitter or a self-employed nanny.
